An environmental audit is a systematic, documented and objective assessment of how a facility or organisation performs against defined environmental criteria, such as permit conditions, regulatory requirements or an ISO 14001 management system. It gathers evidence through document review, site inspection and interviews, then reports findings ranked by significance with recommendations for corrective action.
Environmental audits give management an independent check on whether environmental requirements are actually being met, rather than assumed to be. In Saudi Arabia, the criteria typically include the conditions of environmental permits, the Environmental Law and its Implementing Regulations, waste management requirements, industrial-city rules where relevant, and internal policies or an ISO 14001 environmental management system. Audits are also used before an expected regulatory inspection, after an incident, or as part of a group-wide governance programme.
We agree the audit type, scope and criteria at the outset: a regulatory compliance audit, a gap assessment against a new requirement or standard, or an internal audit of an environmental management system. We then review documents, inspect operational areas, waste and chemical storage, emission and discharge points, and interview responsible staff. Each finding is supported by objective evidence and classified by significance, so management can see clearly which issues carry regulatory or environmental risk and which are improvement opportunities.
For organisations with, or working towards, ISO 14001, we support internal audits that test whether the management system is implemented and effective. We are not a certification body, and our internal audit work does not lead to certification; it helps you prepare for and maintain it. Every audit ends with a clear report and a closing discussion, and we can verify corrective actions in a follow-up review.
