Renewable Energy Feasibility & Environmental Studies

Clear, bankable answers before you invest: how much energy a site can produce, what it will cost, and what environmental approvals it needs.

Investment decisions built on credible technical, financial and environmental evidence

Overview

A renewable energy feasibility study tests whether a solar, wind or hybrid project is technically possible, financially viable and environmentally acceptable at a given site. It combines resource and yield assessment, grid and land constraints, cost and revenue modelling, and environmental and social screening, and it identifies the studies and permits the project will need.

From factory rooftops to utility-scale plants, renewable energy projects are being planned across the Kingdom. Before committing capital, owners, developers and lenders need confidence in three things: the energy the site will really produce, the cost and return of the project, and the environmental conditions it must meet.

Weak early studies are expensive. Optimistic yield assumptions undermine the financial case, unsuitable land or grid constraints are discovered late, and environmental issues such as habitats, drainage, dust or visual impact can delay approvals. For wind projects, effects on birds and on nearby communities also need careful assessment.

Selorin combines renewable energy engineering with our core environmental expertise. We screen sites, assess solar and wind resources and expected yield, model costs and returns, and identify grid and land constraints. Our environmental team prepares baseline surveys, environmental impact assessments and management plans, and supports the permitting process, so the project moves from feasibility to approval on one consistent evidence base.

When you need this service

You may need this service when:

  • You are evaluating land or rooftops for a solar or wind project.
  • You need a feasibility study for management, investors or a lender.
  • You must compare solar, wind, storage or hybrid options for a site.
  • Your project requires an environmental impact assessment or environmental permit.
  • You need independent review of a developer's or contractor's yield and cost estimates.
  • You are setting renewable energy targets as part of a net-zero plan.

What we deliver

01

Site screening

Comparison of candidate sites by resource, land, access, grid proximity and environmental sensitivity.

02

Resource and yield assessment

Solar irradiation or wind resource analysis and energy yield modelling with clearly stated losses and uncertainty.

03

Technical concept

Preliminary layout, technology options, storage and grid connection concept.

04

Financial model

Capital and operating costs, savings or revenue, payback, internal rate of return and sensitivity analysis.

05

Environmental impact assessment

Baseline surveys, impact assessment and mitigation for land, ecology, drainage, dust, noise and visual effects.

06

Permitting support

Environmental management plans and coordination of submissions to the relevant authorities.

Our approach

  1. Frame the decision

We confirm objectives, scale and the questions the study must answer.

  2. Screen and measure

We screen sites and assess resources, constraints and environmental sensitivities.

  3. Model options

We model yield, costs and returns for each option and compare them.

  4. Assess impacts

We assess environmental and social impacts and define mitigation.

  5. Recommend and approve

We recommend the preferred option and support permitting through to approval.

Regulatory context

  • The National Renewable Energy Program and Saudi Vision 2030 targets for renewable electricity.
  • Environmental Law and its implementing regulations, including environmental impact assessment requirements administered by the National Center for Environmental Compliance (NCEC).
  • Water and Electricity Regulatory Authority requirements for generation and grid connection.
  • Requirements of the Saudi Green Initiative and the Kingdom's net-zero ambition for 2060.

Requirements vary by activity, location and permit conditions. We confirm the applicable requirements for your project at the start of every engagement.

Frequently asked questions

What is included in a solar feasibility study?

Typically site and resource assessment, energy yield, system concept, grid connection, capital and operating costs, financial returns and an environmental screening. The depth depends on project size and on who will rely on the study.

Do renewable energy projects need an environmental impact assessment?

Larger solar and wind projects usually require environmental assessment because of land take, construction works and possible effects on habitats, drainage and communities. Small rooftop systems usually do not. We screen the project and confirm the requirement early.

How accurate are energy yield estimates?

Yield estimates carry uncertainty from weather data, equipment performance and losses. We state assumptions and uncertainty clearly so lenders and decision-makers can see the range of likely outcomes.

Can you compare solar, wind and storage options?

Yes. We model each option and hybrid combinations against your demand, site and budget, and recommend the one with the best balance of cost, output and risk.

Can you review a contractor's proposal?

Yes. We provide independent review of yield, design and cost assumptions in proposals before you sign.
